European Parliament approves Bulgaria's entry into eurozone. When country officially switches to euro?
The European Parliament approved Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone — a monetary union that now includes 21 European Union countries that use the euro as their official currency.
This is according to a message published on the official website of the European Parliament.
The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs adopted a positive opinion. 46 members of the committee voted "for", three voted "against", and five abstained.
"With Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone, 21 of the 27 EU member states will use the euro as their currency," the message says.
In Bulgaria, the euro will begin to be used as the main currency from January 1, 2026.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 2, the average euro buying rate in Ukraine rose to a record high of UAH 48.9. The selling rate also increased — to UAH 49.7.
At the same time, yesterday, July 7, it became known that the euro exchange rate in exchange offices in Ukraine has slightly "dropped" over the past few days.
Recall that in June of this year, Bloomberg wrote that more and more exporters are refusing to make payments in dollars, preferring euros, yuans or Canadian dollars.
