Ukraine to switch to European voltage standards - 230 V from July 1
The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (Energy Commisison) in April adopted a resolution providing for a change in the standard nominal voltage level in the end-user network from 220/380 to 230/400 volts from July 1.
This is announced by the Economic Pravda publication, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
It is noted that such changes are taking place within the framework of the European integration course and expand the integration of the Ukrainian energy system with the European Union, because in the EU, the 230-volt voltage standard is used in the distribution network for the end-user.
Along with the change in the nominal voltage standard in the network, the range of permissible deviations will also change.
If previously the regulator considered voltage surges from 198 V to 242 V to be the norm, then from July 1 the permissible deviations will be in the range from 207 V to 253 V, that is, plus or minus 10% of the nominal value.
The National Commission for the Regulation of Electricity and Energy of Ukraine assures that the change in the voltage level does not threaten household electrical appliances, because most of them are imported from the EU, and there the voltage standard is 230 V and higher.
This can be checked on the equipment, manufacturers' websites and chargers.
The transition to the new voltage standard will not affect the amounts in electricity bills.
"You pay for the electricity consumed, that is, per kilowatt-hour. Voltage is the pressure in the system, not the amount of electricity, so there will be no new numbers on the receipt," DTEK assured.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, according to the company DTEK Grids (the city of Kyiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Odesa Regions), regional power companies have long been using modern equipment that operates within 230 V (+/-10%).
