IAEA does not believe Iran was trying to build nuclear weapons – Grossi
The International Atomic Energy Agency cannot say that Iran is engaged in the production of nuclear weapons.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated this in an interview with Sky News on Wednesday, June 18.
The IAEA does not believe that Iran was trying to develop nuclear weapons, Grossi was quoted as saying by Sky News.
"We came to the conclusion we could not affirm there is any systematic effort in Iran at the moment to manufacture a nuclear weapon," the IAEA Director General said.
According to him, the IAEA report states that Iran is the only country in the world that enriches 60% of uranium, the only country in the world, so "there are elements of concern." However, it cannot be said that the country is producing nuclear weapons, Grossi stressed. The IAEA chief stressed that during hostilities between Iran and Israel, there is always a possibility of a radiological event when a nuclear facility is hit, for example, "dispersal of nuclear material in the atmosphere."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 14, Grossi said that after Israel's attacks on a key uranium enrichment facility in Iran's Natanz (Isfahan province), there was a release of radiation inside the facility.
On June 16, the IAEA announced damage to ground infrastructure at Iran's main nuclear facility in Natanz.
