Zelenskyy says with whom and how he will negotiate about territories

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he will negotiate about the territories of the state exclusively with russian dictator vladimir putin. Ukraine's negotiating delegation does not have the relevant powers. Zelenskyy said this in an interview with the Hungarian publication Valasz Online on Tuesday, June 10.

The Ukrainian memorandum is the basis for the negotiations, but the negotiating delegation has a mandate to discuss humanitarian issues, the head of state said. According to him, this includes the issues of a ceasefire, prisoners of war and abducted children. However, territorial issues are a constitutional matter, so the delegates do not have a mandate to discuss the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

"My job is to negotiate about the territories - and about putin, who seized them. I will not discuss my position on this issue with anyone else. But we have already said that we will not recognize the currently occupied territories as de jure russian," Zelenskyy stressed.

Ukraine will have time to resolve territorial issues diplomatically with adequate security guarantees that will not allow putin to continue the war, the President said.
