Poland to review results of second round of presidential election
Today, June 9, the National Electoral Commission in Poland will review records containing incorrect vote counting in some election protocols of the second round of the presidential election. This is reported by Polish Radio.
Thus, Justice Minister Adam Bodnar noted that such a meeting of the commission is something extraordinary, since there has been trust in the electoral system until now. According to him, the electoral system is decentralized, and at the local level everything usually worked well.
"It suddenly turned out that trust has been undermined, so the commission must accept this challenge. In my opinion, this means greater involvement of the Prosecutor General. The prosecutor is a mandatory figure in cases of elections, any, and especially presidential," said Bodnar.
As noted, the issue of the validity of the election of the President of the Republic of Poland is decided by the Supreme Court on the basis of a report submitted by the National Electoral Commission and after considering objections.
At the same time, for several days now, the media has been reporting on errors made by some district election commissions. The commission members distributed votes incorrectly. It is reported that such incidents occurred in several commissions.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, former Polish President Lech Walesa called for a recount of the votes in the second round of the presidential election or a repeat vote.
And Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that all violations registered during the vote count are being investigated.
As a reminder, after processing 100% of the data from polling stations, it became known that Karol Nawrocki received 50.89% of the votes and won the second round of the Polish presidential election. His opponent Rafal Trzaskowski received 49.11% of the votes.
