Zelenskyy names condition under which putin can win war
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that russia will be able to succeed in the war only if it is significantly prolonged and there is no sanction pressure from the West.
The head of state stated this in an interview with ABC News. The full video was released by the presidential press service.
“Putin can in no way win the war under the current circumstances if there is unity in the world and the world is on our side. This is impossible. So, he can win only if it is a very long war, many, many years and without sanctions. This is what he really wants, because he will need money for this war and he wants to sit in the Kremlin until his death. This is his goal,” Zelenskyy said.
The President also drew attention to the statements of former US President Donald Trump, who, according to Zelenskyy, publicly and in private conversations allowed russia to win.
“I have said many times that this is not true. This is not about his words, but about the real situation. This is not a victory when you spend a million people in order to gain a few thousand kilometers. This is an initiative due to a large number of people, a number of weapons, and this initiative is in your hands. But this is not a victory, and I told President Trump this. You will see that this is not a victory. Of course, if all of you, the US and Europe, stop supporting and get out of this situation, then yes, they can win. But I want to remind you that even without all the partners it was difficult for them to occupy us at the very beginning of the war,” Zelenskyy said.
Separately, he emphasized the importance of sanctions against the russian energy sector, because the Russian economy is heavily dependent on revenues from this sector.
“They (the US – Ed.) could introduce energy restrictions, and maximum oil prices – USD 30, no more. We lost three years, we gave them this money,” the head of state emphasized.
When asked whether russia would be able to win if US aid were cut off, Zelenskyy replied: “They will have more chances, most likely,” adding that in that case Ukraine would suffer much greater losses.
