Macron calls on US to confirm its "commitment" to sanctions against russia
French President Emmanuel Macron called on the US to impose sanctions against russia if it "confirms" that it is "not ready for peace".
He said this during a trip to Singapore as part of a tour of Southeast Asia, BFMTV reports.
Thus, in response to a question about the second round of talks to end the war between Ukraine and russia, Emmanuel Macron called on russia and the US to take responsibility.
The French President said that if russia "confirms" that it is "not ready for peace", Washington should confirm its "commitment" to sanctions against moscow, emphasizing that "this is a reality test for the Americans".
"48 hours ago I spoke with President Trump, who expressed his impatience. Now the question is what are we going to do? We (Europeans - Ed.) are ready", he added.
Macron also confirmed the reliability of the Europeans, speaking about the position on the ceasefire.
"They are consistent and reliable [...] We have not changed, we still believe in international order, cooperation, open trade and compliance with rules," he said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in the meantime, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on partners to respond to russia's statement at the UN Security Council about its readiness to fight "as long as necessary." He stressed that it was time to speak to russia "in the language of sanctions and increased support for Ukraine."
