Putin gave Trump list of demands to end war — Reuters
Russian dictator vladimir putin has voiced a number of demands to Ukraine and the West, after the fulfillment of which the aggressor country russia will supposedly stop the war.
Reuters reported this, citing its own sources.
The agency's unnamed interlocutors said that putin voiced his demands during his last telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump.
The russian dictator told Trump that he allegedly agreed to work with Ukraine on a memorandum that would define the main provisions of a peace agreement.
Reuters sources said that putin's key demand is to stop NATO's expansion eastward. He wants major Western powers to give a written promise that Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia will never become members of the alliance.
Among putin's other demands:
- Neutral and non-aligned status for Ukraine, which will be enshrined in its constitution.
- Lifting of some sanctions on russia.
- Unfreezing russia's assets, most of which are located in the European Union.
- Ukraine must legislate security guarantees for the country's russian-speaking population.
One of the agency's interlocutors said that if putin realizes that he will not be able to reach a peace agreement on his own terms, he will continue the war and try to show that a possible peace agreement in the future will be even more painful.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 27, the US President's special envoy for russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said that Washington had received a document from Kyiv, the implementation of which would allow the process of a peaceful settlement to begin.
According to Kellogg, the US is now waiting for russia to provide the relevant document. After that, the parties will prepare a new round of negotiations.
