European partners not united on issue of assistance to Ukraine: France and Britain - for peacekeepers, Germany - against - Financial Times
Post-war support for Ukraine is becoming a subject of controversy among Western allies. According to the Financial Times, there is a growing difference of opinion between France, Great Britain and Germany regarding the future scale of military assistance.
This is reported by the Financial Times.
Paris and London continue to promote the idea of introducing a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine as part of the initiative of the so-called "Coalition of the Willing". In their opinion, the presence of allied forces after the cessation of hostilities could be the key to maintaining Europe's influence, strengthen moral support for Ukraine and send a clear signal to US leader Donald Trump about the invariability of the European position.
At the same time, Germany remains skeptical of such steps, especially because of Washington's restrained position. One European official, in a comment to the publication, called the initiative virtually “dead,” emphasizing that its implementation is unlikely without the consent of the United States.
In contrast, French diplomats assure that there is no stoppage, work on the plan continues as usual. Officially, the idea of deploying peacekeepers remains on the agenda - albeit in an increasingly complex geopolitical balance.
As a reminder, France and the United Kingdom are in favor of deploying troops to monitor a possible ceasefire. Germany, Italy, Spain, and Poland are against it, although Berlin later stated that it is open to this idea. The United Kingdom is already ready to send troops and aircraft.
Switzerland, Ireland, Denmark, Australia, Belgium, Sweden, and the Czech Republic have also expressed their readiness to join the mission. Bulgaria categorically refused, and Romania is considering the role of a transit hub. Turkey has set a condition for full participation in the preparation of the mission.
Recall that the European countries from the so-called "Coalition of the Willing" will probably not be able to assemble a contingent of 25,000 military personnel to be sent to Ukraine as forces that will ensure a long-term ceasefire between Ukraine and the aggressor country, russia.
