Germany wants to rearm by 2029 amid fears of russian attack — Reuters
Bundeswehr Inspector General General Carsten Breuer has issued an order to fully equip Germany's armed forces with weapons and equipment by 2029. The relevant document, as reported by Reuters, has already been made public.
The document states the need for accelerated rearmament of the army in connection with NATO leadership assessments: according to forecasts, russia can restore its military power to a level sufficient for a potential attack on the Alliance countries by 2029.
The plan signed by Breuer identifies key priorities in the field of defense support. In particular, attention is focused on strengthening air defense, in particular to counter drones, increasing the ability to carry out precision strikes at ranges of more than 500 km, as well as replenishing strategic ammunition reserves.
Among other identified areas are the development of electronic warfare and the creation of a sustainable system of defensive and offensive capabilities in outer space.
As the publication reminds, earlier the Commander-in-Chief of the German Land Forces Alfons Mais stated that social and industrial mobilization in russia indicates a rapid increase in its military potential.
"By 2029 at the latest, the Russian troops will be capable of large-scale aggression against NATO. But they can start testing us much earlier," he said.
As a reminder, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is seeking to increase the country's defense spending to over EUR 60 billion.
