Zelenskyy intends to arrive in Turkey on May 15, even without ceasefire from russia — Axios

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to take part in a planned meeting in Turkey on May 15, even if russia does not fulfill the condition for a ceasefire from May 12.

The American media resource Axios reported this, citing a Ukrainian source.

“A Ukrainian official said that Zelenskyy will be in Turkey on Thursday, even if Russia does not agree to start a ceasefire on Monday,” the publication quotes.

Recall that on the night of May 11, russian leader vladimir putin declared his readiness for “direct negotiations” with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15, but did not mention the establishment of a ceasefire.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump called on Kyiv to immediately agree to a meeting in Turkey, despite the lack of guarantees of a ceasefire.

For his part, Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the evening of May 11 confirmed his readiness for dialogue, but emphasized that he expects the cessation of hostilities from May 12. He also stated that he would personally wait for vladimir putin in Istanbul on May 15.

Commenting on the situation, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed doubts about the readiness of the russian leadership for an open meeting: “I don’t think they have even a fraction of the courage that President Zelenskyy is demonstrating by offering Putin a personal conversation in Turkey.”
