Trump threatens China with additional 50% tariffs
US President Donald Trump has threatened China with additional 50% tariffs in response to China's 34% tariff.
He wrote about this in Truth Social.
"Yesterday, China imposed corresponding tariffs of 34% on top of its already record tariffs, non-monetary tariffs, illegal corporate subsidies and large-scale long-term currency manipulation, despite my warning," the message says.
This is Trump's warning that any country that, in response to the US actions, imposes additional tariffs will be immediately met with new, significantly higher tariffs on top of those initially imposed.
"Thus, if China does not reverse its 34% increase, which exceeds the already existing long-term trade abuses, by tomorrow, April 8, 2025, the United States will impose additional tariffs against China of 50%, starting on April 9," he said.
In addition, according to him, all negotiations with China regarding their meeting requests will be suspended, while negotiations with other countries that have also requested meetings will begin immediately.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in the meantime, the European Union has offered the United States zero tariffs on industrial goods after US President Donald Trump introduced tariffs.
Bill Ackman, an American billionaire and founder of the Pershing Square hedge fund who previously supported Donald Trump, called on Trump to take a timeout and review the tariff system introduced by the US President, which will come into effect on April 9.
