Svyrydenko on new US tariffs for Ukraine: difficult, but not critical

First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko has noted that the introduction of new tariffs by the US is difficult for Ukraine, but not critical. Svyrydenko announced this on Facebook, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"What do the new US tariffs mean for Ukraine? Difficult, but not critical. A general 10% tariff will apply to us. There is no separate higher tariff, such as 31% in Moldova or 20% in the EU, for Ukraine," she noted.

Svyrydenko reported that in 2024, Ukraine exported USD 874 million to the US, of which USD 363 million was for cast iron and another USD 112 million for pipes, in return for which it bought goods worth USD 3.4 billion in the US. Ukrainian tariffs on American goods are quite low - the rate for cars is 10%, for coal and oil - 0%.

"Therefore, now we have a chance to agree on other conditions - the American statement clearly indicates this possibility. If everything remains as it is, the American universal tariff will hit mainly small manufacturers. Therefore, we are already working to ensure that Ukraine has better conditions," she noted.

Svyrydenko reported that Ukraine exports more than 600 different categories of goods to the United States (very different - even wrenches), of which 65 types of products - worth more than USD 1 million.

"Ukraine has something to offer the United States of America as a reliable ally and partner. Both our countries will benefit from fair tariffs," Svyrydenko noted.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on April 2, US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of "reciprocal tariffs" in response to the actions of other countries in the world, in particular, Ukraine will be subject to "basic" 10% tariffs.
