Zelenskyy confident he can still mend ties with Trump
After an argument in the Oval Office, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes he can still mend ties with US President Donald Trump after their tense meeting at the White House.
He stressed that the talks should continue in a closed format, Reuters reports.
Zelenskyy expressed confidence that the US would not stop supporting Ukraine, since, in his opinion, they, as "leaders of the civilized world", would not help russian dictator vladimir putin. The President also noted that he was ready for possible difficulties.
"As for saving relations, I think our relations will continue... I don't think it's right when such discussions are completely open. ... The format of what happened, I don't think it brought anything positive or additional to us as partners," Zelenskyy told reporters.
He also confirmed his readiness to sign a mineral agreement and expressed hope that the United States would be ready for it too.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 2, Waltz said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continued to argue with US President Donald Trump even behind closed doors, so he was asked to leave early.
On February 28, during the public part of the meeting, Zelenskyy got into a heated argument with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, who also took part in the conversation.
On February 28, Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social that Zelenskyy was allegedly not ready for peace and showed disrespect for the United States.
Meanwhile, Mike Waltz said that the United States needs a Ukrainian leader who wants to ensure lasting peace with the aggressor country of russia, but it is unclear whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is ready to do this.
