Important part of ending war with Ukraine. Trump reacts to release of teacher held by russia
US President Donald Trump welcomed the release of American Marс Fogel, who was held in russia, and expressed hope that this step could contribute to ending the war in Ukraine.
His words are quoted by Bloomberg.
"I think this could be a very important element, and you can be a big part of it, because this could be a big, important part of ending the war with Ukraine," Trump said, welcoming Fogel's return.
US President's envoy Stephen Witkoff visited Moscow the day before to pick up Fogel, a teacher who spent more than three years behind bars on drug possession charges.
The American President also noted that the terms of the release were "very fair," but did not specify whether the US had made any concessions. When asked whether he had contacted russian president vladimir putin on this issue, Trump replied: "I don't want to say that, I just want to say that I really appreciate what they did by letting Marс go home."
He also hinted at another release, saying that "someone very special" would be returning home on Wednesday, February 12, but did not elaborate.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, a private jet belonging to Donald Trump aide Steve Witkoff landed in Moscow. The official's visit was not announced in advance.
