Trump to impose sanctions on ICC - Reuters

US President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order imposing sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) for attacks on the United States and its allies, a White House official said, Reuters reported on Thursday, February 6.

A White House official said Trump would sign an executive order imposing sanctions on the ICC, including for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. According to the publication, the US President's executive order would impose financial and visa sanctions on individuals and their family members who assist in the ICC's investigation of US citizens or their families.

"This move by Trump came after Democrats in the US Senate last week blocked a Republican attempt to impose sanctions on the ICC in protest against its arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister over Israel's campaign in Gaza. Netanyahu is currently visiting Washington," the report said.

The ICC consists of 125 members and is a court that can prosecute individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and crimes of aggression against the territory of member states or their citizens. The US, China, russia and Israel are not its members.
