Trump orders creation of Iron Dome for US – Bloomberg
U.S. President Donald Trump is preparing an executive order to create a “next-generation” defense shield to protect the U.S. from ballistic missiles and other long-range attacks, similar to Israel’s Iron Dome.
Bloomberg reported this on Tuesday, January 28.
The executive order states that the U.S. President wants to accelerate the production and integration of new systems to track and intercept missiles. Trump wants the entire United States to be protected from the threat of drones and various types of missiles, just as Israel is able to defend itself with the Iron Dome.
“The threat of attack by ballistic, cruise and hypersonic missiles remains a catastrophic threat facing the United States,” the White House document on the upcoming presidential executive order states.
The publication writes that the U.S. already has a number of missile defense systems, such as Terminal High Altitude, as well as Aegis complexes on warships and Patriot batteries on land-based interceptors. However, the Department of Defense is trying to develop a defensive shield to fully protect U.S. territory.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in September, Poland, Latvia and Romania sent a joint letter to NATO allies calling for immediate strengthening of air defenses on the Alliance's eastern border.
Recall that in April, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spent approximately USD 1.3 billion to repel a night attack by Iran, which launched more than 300 missiles and strike drones at Israeli territory.
