Trump withdraws US from World Health Organization
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the withdrawal of the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO), severing ties with the UN agency, CNN reports.
The text of the order states that the reasons for this step were, in particular, "the organization’s mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic that arose out of Wuhan, China, and other global health crises, its failure to adopt urgently needed reforms, and its inability to demonstrate independence from the inappropriate political influence of WHO member states."
Trump has repeatedly criticized the WHO, accusing it of being ineffective during the coronavirus pandemic. In July 2020, the Trump administration officially announced its withdrawal from the organization, as COVID-19 continued to spread around the world.
When signing the order, Trump told his aide: "That’s a big one," alluding to the decision made in 2020 and his belief that the United States was overpaying for membership in the organization. The decree also states that the WHO "continues to demand unfairly onerous payments."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Trump was caught lying in his inaugural speech. Where and in what did he lie?
On January 20, inauguration events took place in Washington, as a result of which 78-year-old Donald Trump became the 47th President of the United States of America.
