Trump revokes Biden's executive order on artificial intelligence risks
U.S. President Donald Trump has revoked an executive order signed by his predecessor Joe Biden in 2023 to reduce the risks associated with the development of artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Reuters, Biden's executive order required developers of potentially dangerous AI systems to submit test results to the U.S. government under the Defense Production Act before releasing them to the public. The goal was to prevent threats to national security, the economy, public health and cybersecurity.
Federal agencies were required to develop testing standards and take into account risks, including in the areas of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear safety. The executive order also aimed to establish safeguards against the rapid development of AI.
The Republican Party's 2024 election platform stated that Biden's executive order " hinders innovation." Republicans advocate for the development of AI “rooted in free speech and human flourishing."
The development of generative AI arouses both enthusiasm and fears due to the risk of job losses and possible negative consequences.
The U.S. Department of Commerce last week imposed restrictions on the export of chips and AI technologies, which prompted criticism from large companies, including Nvidia.
At the same time, Trump did not cancel another Biden decree that provides federal support for the energy needs of data centers focused on AI.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, U.S. President Donald Trump made several false and misleading statements in his speech, which he delivered after his inauguration on Monday, January 20.
On January 20, inaugural events were held in Washington, as a result of which 78-year-old Donald Trump became the 47th President of the United States of America.
Trump's inauguration took place in the United States Capitol Rotunda. Before that, U.S. presidents had been taking the oath in the open air for almost 40 years.
