TikTok completely stops working in US

On Saturday evening, January 18, the social network TikTok application stopped working in the US - two hours before the law banning the platform was supposed to come into effect.

This is reported by the Associated Press.

At 10:50 p.m., American time, the application disappeared from the Apple and Google stores.

From now on, American users, when trying to open the application, see a message from the company: "The law banning TikTok has come into effect in the United States. Unfortunately, this means that you cannot use TikTok for now."

The company suggested that it would soon resume work.

"We are fortunate that President Trump has made it clear that he will work with us on a solution to restore TikTok when he takes office," the message says.

Due to the blocking of one of the most popular applications in the world, 170 million Americans lost access to it.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, it was previously reported that US President Joe Biden will not impose a ban on TikTok, which is due to take effect the day before he leaves office on Monday, January 20, thus leaving the fate of the social network to President-elect Donald Trump.

At the same time, China is considering the possibility of selling the American division of TikTok to billionaire Elon Musk.

American content creators on TikTok are starting to actively urge their subscribers to subscribe to their channels on alternative platforms, which are more often called Instagram or YouTube. Such calls have become more frequent after a US federal appeals court ruled that TikTok may be banned in the country if it is not sold to an American company by January 19, 2025.
