Zelenskyy introduced new public holiday in Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree on the introduction of the Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity. The new public holiday will be celebrated on May 21.
The corresponding message was published on the website of the head of state on Friday, December 27.
Decree No. 883/2024 states that the new public holiday should strengthen the unity and harmony of the Ukrainian people and affirm the Ukrainian national and civic identity. In addition, the Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity will promote the free development of the cultural diversity of the indigenous peoples and national minorities (communities) of Ukraine, demonstrate respect for their contribution to defending the state sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and the armed struggle against the aggressor country russia.
The Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity will be celebrated annually on May 21.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Heroes' Day is celebrated in Ukraine on May 23.
Recall that on February 16, 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy introduced Unity Day against the backdrop of reports at the time about a possible full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the aggressor country russia.
