Prime Minister Shmyhal makes statement on possibility of resuming air traffic in Ukraine
"It is currently impossible to even partially open Ukrainian airspace due to the security situation. Therefore, it is important to develop alternative routes for delivering cargo and transporting passengers."
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated this during the International Transport Forum, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, Ukraine has conducted a risk assessment and determined the need for air defense forces and means to partially open airspace.
"The key issues for this decision remain security and the military situation. That is why it is important for us to develop alternative routes for delivering cargo and moving passengers. We are talking about the land border, road and rail transport," Shmyhal said.
He also noted that as a result of russian attacks, aviation infrastructure was damaged, and at least 15 civilian airports were affected.
According to the Prime Minister, over the past three months, the enemy has carried out almost 60 attacks on port infrastructure, as a result of which about 300 facilities and 22 civilian vessels were damaged or destroyed, dozens of people were injured.
"Despite the aggressor's constant attempts to cause even greater destruction, thanks to the Defense Forces, we were able to ensure the stable operation of the Ukrainian sea corridor. Today, more than 2,800 vessels have used it, transporting more than 75 million tons of cargo for more than 40 countries around the world, of which more than 50 million tons are agricultural products," Shmyhal added.
He also emphasized that this "once again confirms that Ukraine remains the guarantor of food security, despite the regular shelling of port infrastructure by the enemy."
