Scholz calls putin to talk about Ukraine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a telephone conversation with vladimir putin on Friday, November 15.
This is stated on the website of the Bundestag.
Scholz called for an end to the war against Ukraine, the withdrawal of troops and a negotiation table for a just peace. He added that Germany will continue to support Ukraine.
"I spoke with president putin on the phone and called on him to stop russia's aggressive war against Ukraine and to withdraw its troops. Russia must demonstrate readiness for negotiations with Ukraine - with the goal of a just and lasting peace," Scholz wrote on the X social network after the conversation.
The conversation was the first direct communication between Scholz and putin in almost two years.
It is also noted that before speaking with putin, Scholz spoke on the phone with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
It will be recalled that Europe is making a last call to the administration of Joe Biden on the eve of Donald Trump's coming to power to strengthen American support for Ukraine in order to strengthen Kyiv's position as much as possible before the end of the presidential term in January.
