Pentagon announces how long US will support Ukraine
Deputy Press Secretary of the Pentagon, Sabrina Singh, confirmed the commitment of the United States to the continuation of military support to Ukraine. She noted that presidential aid packages and the USAI initiative (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative) will be available before the end of the current administration's term.
The press service of the Pentagon has reported this.
"We still have approximately USD 2 billion left in USAI as well that we can commit. So you're going to continue to see packages roll out in the coming weeks before the end of this administration,” Singh stressed.
She also noted that military aid will continue to flow in regularly, and emphasized bipartisan support for Ukraine in Congress, which remains important, especially ahead of the change of administration in January.
"Support for Ukraine remains strong," she added.
When asked by reporters about the possibility of an immediate allocation of USD 9 billion, Singh explained that about USD 4 billion is currently available within the already approved budget, adding: "The president notified Congress that he would be spending down that authority or using that authority before the end of his term."
When journalists asked about the possible risks of a lack of transparency during the allocation of new tranches, Singh emphasized her confidence in the Pentagon's processes: "We're confident in the transparency of that process and we're also confident in the support that Ukraine has from this administration and from Congress, that they will continue to get those, whether it's capability systems, that will continue to flow to the battlefield."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 6 it became known that Donald Trump won the presidential race, becoming the 47th president of the United States.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was one of the first world leaders to congratulate Trump on his election victory.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration plans to urgently send USD 6 billion to Ukraine before Trump's inauguration.
