ISW names purpose of russian strikes on grain corridor
Russian attacks on civilian vessels and other grain corridor infrastructure are almost certainly intended to undermine Western confidence in Ukraine's ability to ensure its security.
This is stated in the russian Offensive Campaign Assessment by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) as of October 14, 2024, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
According to ISW, on October 14, russian troops attacked civilian vessels moored in Ukrainian ports for the fourth time since October 5. Analysts of the Institute believe that these strikes are part of a large-scale russian campaign aimed at undermining the Ukrainian grain corridor, weakening international support for Ukraine and pushing it to premature negotiations.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 16, 2023, the first blocked ship JOSEPH SHULTE used the sea route established by the Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for merchant ships.
On July 17, 2023, russia announced the withdrawal of navigation security guarantees in the Black Sea ensuring the "grain corridor".
