Donald Trump publishes letter from Zelenskyy with request for meeting

U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, who the day before said that he did not plan to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the latter's visit to the U.S., and later announced that the meeting would still take place, published a letter in which the Ukrainian president asked him for a personal meeting. Trump posted the corresponding post on his pages of the Truth Social and X (Twitter) social networks.

The published document states that this is a letter "from President Zelenskyy to President Trump."

"All of us in Ukraine want to end this war with a just peace. And we know that without America this is impossible to achieve. That’s why we have to strive to understand each other and remain in close contact," Zelenskyy said, adding that he would like to hear Trump's thoughts "firsthand".

In the letter, Zelenskyy several times emphasizes the importance of personal contact with Trump, and also reminds that their last phone conversation was "really good."

As previously reported, Zelenskyy's visit to the U.S. turned into a loud scandal, due to which the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, appealed to the President of Ukraine with a demand to immediately dismiss the Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S., Oksana Markarova, due to alleged interference in the U.S. election. The speaker accused Markarova of having organized Zelenskyy's visit to a plant in Pennsylvania where weapons for Ukraine are produced. Zelenskyy was accompanied by representatives of the Democratic Party, but no Republicans were invited. Johnson said that Zelenskyy's visit was "clearly a partisan campaign event designed to help Democrats and is clearly election interference.”
