Russians steal idea of Ukrainian Korsar and convert it into their Kornet ATGM - Defense Express
The aggressor country of russia announced the development of a new missile for the Kornet anti-tank complex. However, the russian development resembles the Ukrainian Korsar anti-tank missile system.
This was reported by the Defense Express portal.
As the journalists of the portal write, the new russian missile has the index 9M134 and is being developed by the Tula JSC Konstruktorskoe Buro Priborostroeniya KBP [Instrument Design Bureau], which is part of Rostec and is the developer of the Kornet itself.
Its main feature is a significantly lower weight, four times less than the standard 9М133, and its purpose is to attack, as stated, "medium-armored, lightly armored and unarmored vehicles", while the missile has a tandem warhead to counter dynamic defense. The lightweight 9M134 has a "laser trail" guidance system, just like the 9M133.
However, as the journalists note, the appearance of information about the new development in the russian state media, with reference to the press service of the developer, took place already after the official "premiere" of the 9M133 at the Army-2024 exhibition in August.
"At the same time, the demonstration of the new missile obviously did not have the appropriate effect and it was decided to make another attempt," the journalists assume.
Journalists of the portal emphasize that this russian development, at first glance, resembles the Ukrainian Korsar, which is also a lighter missile for hitting less armored targets compared to the Stuhna ATGM.
At the same time, journalists note that the russian federation went further with the 9M134 light and developed the Ukrainian idea. In particular, the declared weight of this new missile is 6.2 kg with the container, and the caliber has been reduced to 82 mm. Armor penetration is 250 mm for dynamic protection. This is no longer enough to defeat a tank in a frontal projection, but it is more than enough to counter infantry fighting vehicle, armored personnel carrier and MRAP.
The journalists also note that this is not a separate missile for a separate ATGM, but an additional shot to the already existing and fairly widespread system. At the same time, the superiority of the number of lightly armored vehicles over tanks is obvious, as is the redundancy of the capabilities of large-caliber missiles to defeat them.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier the German IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile system in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down two russian cruise missiles with one shot.
