Not a new phenomenon. White House reacts to falling of russian drones in Romania and Latvia
Falling fragments of missiles or drones on the territory of neighboring countries is not a new phenomenon, although it indicates the danger of putin's war.
John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications of the US National Security Council, said this at a briefing.
Kirby commented on the latest violation by russian drones of the airspace of two NATO countries - Latvia and Romania.
"This, unfortunately, is not a new phenomenon, as it happened during the war in Ukraine, when fragments of missiles or drones sometimes get into aerial combat and fall on the territory of a neighboring country. We are closely monitoring this," Kirby said.
He added that the US is in close contact with allies and partners on this matter.
"But this only underlines the danger that putin's war in Ukraine has caused for the entire European continent, and the fact that the security landscape has changed - not changing, will not change, but has already changed - which is why we are doing everything possible to ensure that Ukraine is able protect itself," Kirby remarked.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on the night of September 8, a group of attack drones of the aggressor state of russia violated the airspace of Romania and Latvia during the attack on Ukraine.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, called on the allies to take "concrete actions" and lift restrictions on the use of weapons by Ukraine, as well as to decide to use air defense systems of partners to shoot down russian missiles and drones over Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania believes that it was the inaction of NATO allies that led to the falling of russian drones on the territory of the Alliance countries.
