Ukraine regains more territory in less than 48 hours than during entire 2023 counteroffensive - The Telegraph
In less than forty-eight hours, Ukraine returned more territory than during the entire counteroffensive of the summer of 2023.
It was reported by The Telegraph on Thursday, August 8.
According to the regime of operational secrecy, the General Staff of Ukraine does not comment on the invasion into the Kursk Region in the aggressor country of russia, the publication writes.
Ukraine is pursuing the following three goals in its attack on the Kursk Region:
- Withdrawal of russian troops and reduction of pressure on Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk Region.
- To provoke chaos inside russia, to show people that war can come to them.
- To promote the agreement on the exchange of territories during future negotiations.
"The Discord Leaks revealed that Zelenskyy pondered the occupation of Russian villages as a means of getting leverage over Moscow. Zelenskyy advisor Mykhailo Podoliak stated that Ukraine launched its Kursk offensive to bolster its future bargaining position. A Kharkiv-for-Kursk land swap is being mooted. While it is unclear whether Ukraine can hold villages in Kursk, the offensive has shown that breaching Russian territory is easier than destroying Russia’s fortifications in eastern Ukraine," the article says.
The Kursk offensive shows that russia has not learned its lessons from the Wagner Group's lightning-quick takeover of Rostov during the June 2023 mutiny. The aggressor predictably threatened to "destroy" Ukraine and use tactical nuclear weapons, but did not significantly react to the attack, the publication emphasized. In addition, the arrival of F-16 aircraft in Ukraine also gives putin "plenty of reasons to worry," The Telegraph summarizes.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 8, russian media informed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as a result of an offensive in the Kursk Region, allegedly occupied the outskirts of the city of Sudzha and approached Korenevo.
In addition, the Armed Forces of Ukraine allegedly took control of the Sudzha gas measuring station, through which gas is transited to Europe via Ukraine.
We will remind, on August 6, the authorities of the Kursk Region claimed that "saboteurs" tried to break through the russian border at night, but they were allegedly repulsed.
