Amount of cash inflows to banks' cash desks increased by 9.5% to UAH 1,307.6 billion in 6M
The amount of cash inflows to banks’ cash desks for January-June this year amounted to UAH 1,307.6 billion, which is 9.5% more compared to the same period in 2023.
This is evidenced by NBU data, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Disbursement of cash from banks’ cash desks for the first half of 2024 also increased (by 12.6%) and amounted to UAH 1,342.9 billion.
This is due to the recovery of economic activity, which was facilitated, in particular, by the increase in wages and social benefits to the population, moderate inflation.
At the same time, the increase in the amount of cash hryvnias issued from bank cash desks was influenced by the desire of the population to form a certain cash reserve, which remains an affordable and fast payment tool for retail transactions in the conditions of the implementation of power outage schedules.
The largest amounts of cash from cash desks in the first half of 2024 were traditionally issued by banks (% of the total amount of expenses):
- by customer transactions using payment cards (85.1% of the total volume of expenses);
- to support postal operators (4.0% of total expenditures);
- for the purchase of foreign currency from clients (3.2% of the total amount of expenses).
The largest sources of cash inflows to bank cash registers were (% of total inflows):
- trade revenue (31.8% of total revenue);
- customer transactions using payment cards (23.6% of total revenue);
- income from the sale of foreign currency (17.6% of the total amount of income);
- revenue from all types of services (13.0% of total revenue).
Banks' cash turnover volumes (both in terms of income and expenses) for the first half of 2024 exceed the indicators of the first half of the pre-war year 2021 by almost 14% on average, which also indicates a gradual recovery of economic activity.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in the first half of the year, the amount of cash in circulation increased by 4.8% to UAH 800.9 billion.
