Iran reacts to accusations of preparing to assassinate Trump

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Ali Bagheri Khani, has denied information that his country is planning to assassinate former US President Donald Trump, CNN writes.

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN rejected these accusations.

"I say clearly that we will resort to legal and judicial procedures at the domestic and international levels to bring the killers of General Soleimani to justice," Khani said.

The Iranian minister emphasized that the Americans openly admitted their responsibility for the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani.

"Therefore, it is our natural right to follow this issue, and those who are accused in this case should appear before a fair court," added the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Qasem Soleimani is a national icon among supporters of the Iranian theocracy, but he was a serious enemy of the US during the Iraq war, helping to arm militants who killed American soldiers. The US eliminated Soleimani with a drone strike in Iraq in January 2020.

Earlier, the US special services received information about Iran's preparations for the assassination of Trump, after which the Secret Service increased his security. The likely reason could be revenge for the assassination of a high-ranking Iranian general, Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in January 2020 during the Trump administration.

It will be recalled that during a pre-election rally in the state of Pennsylvania, Donald Trump was shot while he was on stage. The incident is being investigated as a possible attempted murder.
