NATO names condition of Ukraine's invitation to the Alliance
NATO will invite Ukraine to the Alliance when all allies agree, and Kyiv fulfills all the necessary conditions.
This is stated in a joint statement following the results of the NATO summit.
"We once again confirm that we will be able to send Ukraine an invitation to join the Alliance when the members of the Alliance agree and the conditions are met," the message reads.
Also, the leaders of the member states of the Alliance noted that the future of Ukraine is in NATO. They support the right of Ukraine to choose its own security mechanism and decide its own future without external interference.
"Ukraine is becoming increasingly operational and politically integrated with the Alliance. We welcome the concrete progress Ukraine has made since the Vilnius Summit on the necessary democratic, economic, and security reforms. As Ukraine continues this vital work, we will continue to support it on its irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership," the statement said.
The Alliance added that the decisions of NATO and the Ukraine-NATO Council, which were adopted at the summit, in combination with the current work of the Alliance members, are a bridge to Ukraine's membership in the Alliance.
"Alliance members will continue to support Ukraine's progress in interoperability, as well as additional democratic and security sector reforms, which NATO foreign ministers will continue to evaluate through an adapted Annual National Program," the statement said.
Jens Stoltenberg hopes that Ukraine will become a member of NATO within ten years.
