Ukraine Opens Honorary Consulate In Myanmar

Ukraine has opened an honorary consulate in Yangon (Myanmar).

The Foreign Affairs Ministry’s consular service department announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Ukraine is broadening the capacity for consular protection of the rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens abroad. Ukraine’s honorary consulate in Myanmar started work on January 11," the statement said.

The main tasks of the consulate are protection of the rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens residing or temporarily located in Myanmar, strengthening of the economic cooperation between Ukraine and Myanmar, broadening of cultural ties, and development of bilateral dialogue between the two countries.

The contacts and address of the consulate will be posted in the relevant section on the website of the Ukrainian embassy in Thailand.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Foreign Affairs Minister Pavlo Klimkin paid an official visit to Myanmar from January 11 to 12.

During the visit, agreement was reached to sign a memorandum of mutual understanding on launch of bilateral consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of Ukraine and Myanmar.
