Occupiers attack Zaporizhzhia NPP, one of power units damaged at night

Overnight into Wednesday, September 21, the Russian occupiers shelled the Zaporizhzhia NPP. As a result of the damage, the communication equipment of one of the power units was damaged.

This follows from a statement by the Energoatom energy company.

So, it is reported that as a result of the impact, the communication equipment of the sixth power unit was damaged.

"On September 21, 2022, at 1:13 a.m., as a result of another shelling of the Zaporizhzhia NPP by ruscist terrorists, the communication equipment of power unit 6 with the open switchgear of the Zaporizhzhia NPP was damaged," the statement says.

As a result of the attack, the block transformer and transformers of the power unit's own needs were disconnected. Due to the loss of power, there was an emergency start of two diesel generators of the safety systems to ensure the operation of the fuel cooling pumps.

"At 2 a.m., the Zaporizhzhia NPP staff found an opportunity and set up the power supply of power unit 6 for its own needs from the bus system of other power units of the station. The diesel generators of the 6th power unit were turned off and switched to standby mode," the company said.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Zaporizhzhia NPP has connected to the Ukrainian power grid again.

On September 5, the Energoatom national nuclear power generating company announced the disconnection of the last power transmission line connecting the plant to the power system of Ukraine at the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
