Prosecutor's Office Launches Investigation Into German MPs' Crimean Visit

The Crimean Prosecutor's Office has registered criminal proceedings against members of the German parliament for violating the procedure for entering the Russia-annexed Crimea.

The Crimean Prosecutor's Office announced this in a statement, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The criminal proceedings were opened under Section 1 of Article 332-1 of the Penal Code.

According to the statement, the German citizens arrived in the Crimea on February 3 in violation of the established procedure for entering and leaving the annexed Ukrainian territory with the aim meeting with representatives of the Russian occupation authorities to discuss ways of establishing contacts with them.

All the circumstances surrounding the commission of this criminal offense are currently being investigated.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Germany has criticized members of the German parliament t for the AfD (Alternative for Germany) party for visiting the Crimea.

Ukraine's Ambassador to Germany Andrii Melnyk has warned German deputies about the consequences for visiting the Crimea.
