The United States Department of State has said that Ukraine has gained considerable authority due to its consistent compliance with implementation of non-proliferation of weapons regime in relation of North Korea. Embassy of Ukraine to the United States has said this in a statement with the reference to Press Secretary of the Department of State Heather Nauert who spoke at a briefing concerning the possible Ukrainian origin of rocket engines used by North Korea, Ukrainian News Agency reports. The press secretary also noted that in the past Ukraine blocked transfer of sensitive materials to the states that had raised concerns of the United States. She also confirmed that the Department of State is aware of the information published in the media and stressed that the American side considers this question very seriously. Mrs. Nauert also said that the United States has good, firm relations with Ukraine, noting in this context the meetings of President Petro Poroshenko with President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the New York Times publication, citing the opinion of experts, has reported that the Ukrainian plant was possibly involved in development of missile technologies by North Korea. The Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council's Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov has said that Ukraine did not supply weapons or military technology to North Korea. YUZHMASH is the largest producer of rocket and space technology in Ukraine. It has a full production cycle and includes a number of factories and a design bureau. The State Space Agency that controls YUZHMASH believes that the claim by Michael Elleman of the International Institute for Strategic Studies of possible involvement of the state enterprise Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant named after A.M. Makarov Production Association (YUZHMASH, Dnipro) in the development of missile technology in North Korea is groundless.
