Ukrzaliznytsia Board Chairperson Balczun Tenders Resignation

Board Chairperson of Ukrzaliznytsia Wojciech Balczun has tendered resignation.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman announced this at a sitting of the Cabinet of Ministers on August 9, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Today we will consider the resignation statement of Wojciech Balczun. He has tendered resignation," the prime minister said.

Prime Minister Groysman says changes, including positive changes, have taken place at the Ukrzaliznytsia public joint stock company during the work of Wojciech Balczun.

Prime Minister Groysman thanked Wojciech Balczun for his work.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Wojciech Balczun the board chairperson at the Ukrzaliznytsia public joint stock company in April 2016.

In December 2016, Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian challenged Balczun's and Ukrzaliznytsia leadership's professionalism.

In January 2017, the The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to take Ukrzaliznytsia under own supervision from the Infrastructure Ministry in order to enhance efficiency of management.

Minister Omelian protested against the decision.

In April 2017, Infrastructure Minister Omelian insisted on dismissal of Ukrzaliznytsia Director General Wojciech Balczun and said he was ready to propose for consideration of the Cabinet of Ministers three candidates for the post at the public joint stock company.

In June 2017, the Ukrzaliznytsia public joint stock company said the contract with board chairman Balczun had been automatically prolonged until June 5, 2019.

The Infrastructure Ministry said the contract with board chairman Balczun could not be prolonged automatically.
