NBU's International Reserves Up 2% To USD 17.9 Billion In June

The international reserves of the National Bank of Ukraine increased by 2% to USD 17.97 billion in June 2017.

The press service of the National Bank of Ukraine announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The statement reads that the international reserves of the National Bank grew by 2% in June and by 16% in the first six months of 2017.

The statement reads that the favorable environment on foreign markets for Ukrainian companies enabled the National Bank of Ukraine to continue purchases of foreign currency to its international reserves in June without causing obstacles for revaluation of the hryvnia.

In June 2017, the National Bank of Ukraine purchased USD 301.6 million and sold USD 1.4 million.

Thus, the net purchase of foreign currency by the National Bank of Ukraine is estimated in June at UAH 300.2 million.

At the same time, USD 5.8 million from the international reserves was used to service and repay the government's foreign-currency debt in June.

As at July 1, 2017, the volume of Ukraine's international reserves is sufficient to cover 3.7 months of future imports

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the international reserves of the National Bank of Ukraine increased by 17% to USD 15.5 billion in 2016.

The National Bank of Ukraine expects its international reserves to increase to USD 20.8 billion at the end of the year.
