3,500 People Take Part In Equality March In Kyiv

Organizers of the Equality March for Unity and Pride of the LGBT people stated that roughly 3,500 of people took part in the peaceful event.

Member of the KyivPride civil organization Zorian Kys has said this at a briefing, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

He said that there were no incidents during the event and that the overall organization of protection and safety measures were at high level.

Organizers of the Equality March for Unity and Pride of the LGBT people said that ten people received personal injuries as a result of street assaults after the procession.

Director of the KyivPride civil organization Ruslana Panukhnik has said this at a briefing, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Currently we possess information about seven attacks on participants of the Equality March in Kyiv. In all those seven cases the total of 10 people suffered," she said.

Panukhnik said that among those who had undergone the attacks were a bypasser and a journalist.

According to Panukhnik, the journalist was attacked by law enforcers.

She also said that the increased number of the attacks on the participants of the Equality March was due to the fact that the antagonist groups have already learnt the safety measures that had been adopted by the participants of the march.

She said that all the attacks took place several hours after the event when the participants were returning home.

The director of the civil organization said that one of the victims was admitted to hospital with concussion, and that only in one case law enforcers managed to detain the assaulter.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, some 5,000 police officers were summoned to ensure safety during the Equality March in Kyiv.

The police detained six people during the Equality March in Kyiv on June 18.
