The Khmelnytskyi District Court of Khmelnytskyi region has sentenced to 12 years in prison a major for high treason and attempt to highjack a plane to Russia.
The press service of the office of the military prosecutor of the Western Region announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The statement reads that military prosecutors provided evidence during the trial that the major had given to Russia a secret flight plan of an aerial spy.
During the special flight the betrayer tried to deviate from the route. He also tried to establish communication with some persons and drove the plane toward the state border with Russia. However, having calculated that the plane could not reach Russian air bases the betrayer had to land the plane in Ukraine.
The court sentenced the military to 12 years in prison and deprived him of the military rank.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, prosecutors have sent to courts indictments against five former members of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, who are suspected of high treason.
