The Security Service of Ukraine suspects Viktor Sheibut, former first deputy head of the State Migration Service, and his daughter Kateryna of financing the so-called Donetsk's People's Republic.
Oleksandr Tkachuk, the head of the SBU staff, announced this at a news briefing, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
He says Sheibut was linked with former prime minister Mykola Azarov.
Enterprises controlled by Sheibut on territories not controlled by the government in Donetsk region transferred 'taxes' to so-called authorities of Donetsk's People's Republic. Thus, they financed terrorism and DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko.
Tkachuk says Kateryna Sheibut is the secretary of the movement Donetsk Republic.
The SBU carried out searches in houses owned by relatives of Viktor Sheibut and seized USD 1 million, EUR 130,000, and kilogram of gold.
The SBU has opened a case under Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine have arrested three suspects in Kyiv for financing militants of so-called Donetsk's People's Republic and seized USD 1.622 million, UAH 3.145 million, and EUR 258,000.
