Court In Russia Extends Arrest Of Ukrainian Journalist Suschenko Till 30 April 2017

The Lefortovo District Court of Moscow (Russia) has prolonged the arrest of Ukrainian journalist Roman Suschenko of the Ukrinform national information agency till 30 April 2017.

Lawyer Mark Feygin wrote this in Twitter, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The court sitting is over. They have extended the period of arrest of Roman Suschenko by another three months to 30 April 2017," he wrote.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on 24 January 2017, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe called on Russia to free journalist Roman Suschenko of the Ukrinform national information agency and drop the criminal charges against journalists Hanna Andrievska and Nataliya Kokorina of the Journalistic Investigations Center and journalist Mykola Semena of the Krym publication.

The Federal Security Service of Russia suspects Suschenko of espionage and calls him a career staff employee of the Chief Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

Ukrinform calls Suschenko's detention in Russia a provocation.

The intelligence service of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine says that Roman Suschenko, a journalist with the national news agency Ukrinform, is not carrying military service.
