The Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate believes hat Russia is preparing fake materials about alleged shelling of residential areas of Horlivka (Donetsk region) by forces of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO).
The press service of the Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"In Horlivka, specialists from the Center for Information and Psychological Warfare of the Territorial Troops (Novocherkassk) of the Armed Forces' Southern Military District (Rostov-on-Don), troops from the Third Motorized Rifle Brigade (Horlivka) ... and local residents are preparing materials about alleged 'shelling' of residential buildings by ATO forces for subsequent distribution by the Russian mass media," the statement said.
In addition, according to the intelligence directorate, the number of cases of desertion and absence without leave has increased among militants.
Up to 30 cases of absence without leave were uncovered on January 9 found.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate has said that Russian troops shelled residential buildings in Khartsyzk (Donetsk region) on January 7.
