Deputy Chief of the President's Staff Kostiantyn Yeliseyev rules out Ukraine abandoning European integration. He wrote this in his article on The Wall Street Journal, Ukrainian News Agency reports. This was his reaction to Victor Pinchuk's article "Ukraine Must Make Painful Compromises for Peace With Russia" published on December 30, 2016. Neither Donbas nor the occupied Crimea can be part of compromise for peace, Yeliseyev stressed. Ukraine stands for holding local elections in Donbas but only on basis of Ukrainian law and Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) standards. As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, The Wall Street Journal on December 30 published Pinchuk's article in which he called on Ukraine to agree to a compromise with Russia for the sake of achievement of peace. Pinchuk has proposed that Ukraine consider a possibility of temporary exclusion of the probability of its European Union and NATO membership, and also to agree for holding local elections in Donbas without obtaining full control of its territory.
