The Verkhovna Rada has called on the European Parliament, European Commission, national parliaments and the European Union Member-States to disallow implementation of the projects for construction of gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine.

Draft resolution No.5329 received votes of 264 Members of Parliament, while 226 votes enough for approval, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Implementation of the projects is contrary to the EU Energy Strategy of diversification of supply sources and also puts the energy security of the EU and Ukraine at risk.

The Rada also appeals for supporting Ukraine on the path of energy reforms as consistent with international commitments, and integration of the energy markets into the European Energy Community market.

Implementation of the projects for construction of transit gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine, and also affording Russia's gas monopoly Gazprom extra possibilities to increase the volumes of gas pumped through the existing gas pipelines threaten the energy security of Central and Eastern Europe.

Moreover, construction of gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine is politically motivated and its only purpose is to promote Russia's geopolitical purposes to weaken Ukraine and destabilise the entire region.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Petro Poroshenko and leader of the Moderate Party of Sweden Anna Kinberg Batra have coordinated positions to prevent the construction of the gas pipeline from Russia to Germany Nord Stream-2.
