Socialists Party Chairperson Dodon Wins Presidential Elections In Moldova

Igor Dodon, the chairperson of the Party of Socialists, has won 52.29% of votes at second round of the presidential elections in Moldova with 99.9% of protocols processed by the Central Election Commission of Moldova, which means his election as the President of Moldova.


This is indicated by data of the Central Election Commission of Moldova, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Maia Sandu, the candidate from the pro-European forces, has gathered 47.71% of the votes.

Over 1.6 million voters came to the polling stations at the second round of the presidential elections in Moldova (53.4%).

Media report that Igor Dodon has announced himself the winner at the presidential elections.

He made this statement during a news briefing at midnight.

Igor Dodon, 41, was described as a candidate with pro-Russian views.

Media reported that Igor Dodon said Crimea belonged to Russia.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has expressed hope that the next president of Moldova will respect territorial integrity of sovereign states.
