Germany intends to provide EUR 488,000 for clearance of mines in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions before the end of 2016.

The German embassy in Ukraine announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News reports.

According to the statement, since the beginning of October the German government has been facilitating the clearance of mines and combat surpluses from the former conflict zones in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions that are under the control of the government of Ukraine.

For this purpose, the German government has commissioned the non-governmental organization HALO (Hazardous Area Life-support Organization) to clear mines from fields near Severodonetsk, around Mariupol, and near Kramatorsk with the help of a team of assessors and three mine clearing teams.

According to the statement, financial support is expected to continue in the coming years.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Britain intends to provide GBP 2 million for clearance of mines in the Donbas.
