President Petro Poroshenko, Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and President Francois Hollande of France have agreed to hold a ‘Normand' format (Ukraine, Germany, France, Russia) meeting on October 19 in Berlin, Germany.

Ukrainian News Agency learned this from a statement made by the presidential press service.

"The interlocutors agreed to conduct a meeting of the Heads of State in the Normandy format on October 19 in Berlin in order to induce Russia to fulfill the security part of the Minsk agreements," it reads.

The three leaders reached this agreement during a trilateral telephone call.

They discussed the security situation in Donbas.

Poroshenko emphasised the importance of the common position of Ukraine and the European Union countries in the runup to the European Council Summit, due to take place in Brussels October 20-21 and consider the strategy of relations with Russia.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine finds it practical to hold a meeting in the ‘Normand' format only for the purpose of approval of the roadmap of the agreements reached in Minsk, Belarus on February 12, 2015.
