On Thursday, the Supreme Court of Russia is considering an appeal against the prohibition of the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People in Crimea.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in April 2016 the "Supreme Court" of the Russia-occupied Crimea forbade activity of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.

Verkhovna Rada deputy Refat Chubarov, the chairperson of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, said reprisals enhanced in Crimea and there were threats to deputies of Mejlis and their family members as Russian authorities declared the Mejlis an extremist organization.
