China has stated that the issue of nuclear safety in Ukraine depends on a political resolution to the conflict between russia and Ukraine. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian voiced this position at a briefing, commenting on russia’s June 7 strike on the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

It was reported by Ukrinform.

According to Lin Jian, Beijing pays “heightened attention” to the safety of nuclear facilities and nuclear infrastructure.

"China pays heightened attention to the safety of nuclear facilities and nuclear infrastructure. The final resolution of the ‘Ukrainian crisis’ (as the PRC officially refers to the Russian war against Ukraine—ed.) through political means, in this context, is a prerequisite for ensuring nuclear safety in the region,” Lin said.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also emphasized that China’s position on the war remains unchanged and calls for ending the conflict through dialogue and negotiations.

Separately, the diplomat called on “all parties” to work together to de-escalate the situation and create conditions for resuming the negotiation process.

As a reminder, on the night of June 7, a russian drone attacked the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility in the Kyiv Region. There were no casualties, and radiation levels at the facility remain within normal limits.
